THERAPEUTIC APPROACHEs

Therapy Approaches in Toronto, Thornhill & Across Ontario

There is no single approach that works for everyone. I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on what you are experiencing, what you hope to work on, and what feels most useful to you.

You do not need to know which approach is right for you before starting therapy. We can talk about the options together and decide what may fit your needs.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a trauma therapy that helps the brain process difficult experiences that may still feel emotionally or physically present. It can be helpful when past experiences continue to affect how you feel, respond to triggers, or see yourself today.

When Difficult Experiences Still Feel Present

TRAUMA & EXPERIENTIAL THERAPY

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)

DBR is a trauma-focused approach that works with the body’s early responses to overwhelming experiences, including tension, shock, and protective reactions. The process is slow and focused, with attention to what is happening in the body rather than requiring you to tell the full story of what happened.

Ego State Therapy

Ego State Therapy explores the different parts of ourselves that may carry emotions, beliefs, memories, or protective ways of coping. Therapy can help you understand these parts with curiosity and build greater communication and connection within yourself.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT looks at the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. It can help you notice patterns that may be contributing to distress and develop practical ways of responding differently.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT focuses on developing a different relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions rather than trying to eliminate them. It can help you clarify what matters to you and take meaningful steps toward the life and relationships you want.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT offers practical skills for managing intense emotions, navigating difficult situations, improving relationships, and responding more intentionally. Elements of DBT may be incorporated into therapy when emotional regulation or coping feels especially difficult.

Person-centred therapy is grounded in the belief that you bring important knowledge about your own experiences, needs, and values into therapy. My role is to offer a supportive and collaborative space where you can explore what is happening without judgment or pressure to move in a particular direction.

Person-Centred Therapy (PCT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

EFT looks beneath conflict and disconnection to understand the emotions and attachment needs that may be driving recurring relationship patterns. It can help couples communicate more openly, understand one another differently, and strengthen emotional connection.
